Neurological physiotherapy is the treatment of patients with a disorder affecting the brain or spinal cord. Commonly treated conditions include Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Head Injury and Spinal Cord Injury.

Therapy offered by ON Physio is specific to each individual. At your assessment we will discuss what has happened, what physical difficulties you are experiencing and what you aim to get from physiotherapy.

In progresssive conditions such as MS there are many gains that can be made with neurological physiotherapy to help maximise your abilities and minimise secondary complications.

Assessment

At your first appointment we will carry out a detailed assessment of your physical problems. We will discuss what problems you are experiencing and how they are affecting you. We take a thorough medical history including medication.

We then look in detail at your movement targeting specific issues such as balance, posture, weakness and spasticity as is indicated. Having gone through this process together we will be able to make recommendations for a treatment plan going forward.

Treatment Plans

Your treatment plan will be decided with you and according to your aims. It may include:

  • Hands on physical treatment including movement facilitation
  • Advice on management of muscle tone and spasticity
  • Establishing a specific home exercise programme targeting identified problem areas
  • Advice on, and provision of equipment including walking aids and orthotics
  • Referral to other specialities as indicated
  • Support with a gym or swimming programme
  • Assessment for functional electrical stimulation (FES)
  • Advice on use of equipment including walking aids and orthotics
